An apparently belated welcome... and how about James Kelman?

How wonderful that some of you have jumped right in and started blogging already--thus making my "welcome/kickoff" message a bit unnecessary. But here goes anyway...  I look forward to hearing your thoughts on Kelman's How Late and the texts we're reading surrounding it. Kelman's narrative voice is clearly striking, and I think that the overview of the matters involved with his form of narration is treated well in the New Yorker review that I handed out in class (for anyone who didn't get one, it is in the August 25 issue). So, I hope that we can perhaps pick it up from there without re-treading that ground too much since we have a shared sense of some of the things that Kelman's narrative voice and style are able to do and the literary political battles that his work has prompted... but if you take issue with that review, please have at it here!

To those of you who have already posted, thanks for kicking things off. I look forward to your posts and to your comments to one another.
